Michael Novogradac
Managing Partner, Novogradac & Company, LLP
Bethesda, MD

Michael Novogradac is the managing partner in the San Francisco office of Novogradac & Company LLP. He has more than 25 years of experience specializing in affordable housing, community development and renewable energy. Mr. Novogradac’s focus is in real estate taxation and accounting. He is the author of numerous real estate-related tax and accounting articles and books, including the New Markets Tax Credit Handbook and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Handbook.


A frequent speaker at tax credit conferences and forums throughout the country, Mr. Novogradac is very active in advocating for the inclusion of affordable housing, historic, new markets and renewable energy tax credits in federal and state policy and broadcasts a weekly podcast that focuses on tax credit issues. In addition, he serves as advisor on industry and governmental affairs for the NMTC Working Group and the LIHTC Working Group.


Mr. Novogradac also serves on the executive committee of the Housing Advisory Group and the boards of directors of the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition, the National Housing Conference, the NMTC Coalition and Historic Tax Credit Coalition, as well as being an original member of the National Multifamily Housing Council’s Affordable Housing Committee. He previously served on the boards of directors of A Hand Up and the Berkeley Chess School, the board of governors of the California Housing Consortium, as an advisory board member of the National Leased Housing Association, the Federal Housing Policy Council and Housing and Development Reporter. He was also a member of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association NMTC Steering Committee, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Tax Policy Council and the California State Treasurer's Housing Finance Advisory Board, as well as a board member and chief financial officer of the Housing Industry Foundation.


Mr. Novogradac graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He received a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is licensed in California, Oregon, Maryland and Texas as a certified public accountant.

John Sciarretti

 Partner, Novogradac & Company, LLP 
Dover, OH 

John Sciarretti is a partner in the Dover, Ohio, office of Novogradac & Company LLP, where he specializes in the real estate finance, community development and renewable energy industries. Mr. Sciarretti has extensive financial experience working with businesses, including more than 20 years in public accounting and four years as an executive financial manager.


Mr. Sciarretti specializes in the historic rehabilitation tax credit (HTC), new markets tax credit (NMTC) and the renewable energy credit (RETC). He consults with tax credit investors, syndicators, community development entities (CDE) and developers on structuring, financing and syndicating tax credits. His experience includes structuring complex financing for real estate developments and renewable energy transactions, including using NMTCs, HTCs, RETCs and other federal, state and local tax credits and incentives. Mr. Sciarretti has extensive experience in preparing financial forecasts for HTC, NMTC and RETC projects, as well as syndicated real estate investments.


Mr. Sciarretti also provides a broad range of advisory services to CDEs, including transaction structuring, development and implementation of internal compliance policies and procedures, monthly loan servicing and asset management assistance, compliance review and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund reporting. He also advises clients on accounting, tax and regulatory matters. He has published articles, contributes content to the Novogradac Journal of Tax Credits and is a frequent speaker at industry events.


Mr. Sciarretti earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Dayton and a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Akron. He is licensed as a certified public accountant in Ohio.



Carl Hudson
Center for Real Estate Analytics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

Carl Hudson is the center director of the Center for Real Estate Analytics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, a position he's held since February 2011. Dr. Hudson is part of the financial markets team. A joint initiative of the Bank's Supervision and Regulation, Research, and Community and Economic Development departments, the center informs decision making by identifying and analyzing the systemic impacts real estate has on the economy, financial institutions, and consumers. Dr. Hudson contributes to the Atlanta Fed's Real Estate Research blog, which provides analysis on topical research and current issues in the fields of housing and real estate economics. He also occasionally contributes to the Atlanta Fed's Economy Matters magazine, which provides commentary and observations on regional economic topics.

Previously, Dr. Hudson was director of the policy and supervisory studies group, where he oversaw bank and policy research in support of Supervision and Regulation's central bank and examination functions. In addition to commenting on legislative, accounting, and other policy issues, the team conducted real estate market analysis and produced macroprudential analyses.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Fed, Dr. Hudson was an associate professor of finance at Auburn University for 14 years, where he taught courses in business finance, financial management of financial institutions, and derivative securities. His research has been published in such leading publications as the Journal of Financial EconomicsJournal of Banking and FinanceJournal of Accounting and EconomicsJournal of International Money and Finance, and Financial Management.

Dr. Hudson received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a master's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a doctoral degree in finance from Arizona State University.

Granger MacDonald
Immediate Past Chairman
National Association of Home Builders


Granger MacDonald, a Kerrville, Texas-based builder and developer with 40 years of experience in the home building industry, is NAHB’s 2017 Chairman of the Board of Directors.

MacDonald is president of the MacDonald Companies, a diverse development, construction and management firm that has completed more than 35 neighborhoods throughout Texas. His company provides affordable housing for communities in need in the state’s rural and small metro areas.

MacDonald has been active in the NAHB leadership structure at the local, state and national levels throughout his career. A senior life director, he has served on the NAHB Board of Directors for more than 30 years and has chaired the Federal Government Affairs Committee, the State and Local Government Affairs Committee, the Housing Credit Group, the Multifamily Council and BUILD-PAC, NAHB’s political action committee.

MacDonald was elected president of the Texas Association of Builders in 2010 and is a member of the Texas Hill Country Builders Association, the Greater San Antonio Builders Association, the Home Builders Association of San Angelo and the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin.

Actively involved in his community, he has served on the Kerrville/Kerr County Airport Board and the City of Austin Planning Commission. In addition, MacDonald was chairman of the City of Austin Environmental Board and president of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority.

He and his wife, Kathy, live in the Texas Hill Country. His son, T. Justin MacDonald, is executive vice president of the MacDonald Companies and is also a long-time NAHB member.
