Webinar - NALHFA's Washington Update

Since 1982, NALHFA has been promoting, protecting and advancing the legislative and regulatory interests of local housing government agencies and providing leadership in the field of affordable housing finance. The NALHFA Government Relations team is proud to represent the industry's interests and share with you the latest from Washington DC on a variety of topics including:

  • Opportunity Zones: This new development tool, created through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, will bring investment to under-served communities over the next ten years through the estimated $2.2 trillion in unrealized capital gains held by corporations and individuals. It’s is crucial that local HFAs learn about this important new resource as it could be used to fill the capital gap in housing developments across the country.
  • Legislative Improvements to the Housing Credit: NALHFA and other industry groups have been fighting for years to strengthen and improve the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. Now that tax reform has been signed into law, it is even more critical to reinforce these efforts as the value of the credit has been weakened due to a lowered corporate tax rate and a change in the inflation factor for future LIHTC and private activity bond allocations. Learn what is being done in Congress to expand this essential affordable housing tool.
  • Federal Budget: From government shutdowns to a devastating budget request from the Trump Administration, the federal budget process has been volatile over the last few years. This webinar will cover the latest action in the federal budget process and what funding levels local HFAs can expect for housing programs in FY2018 and FY2019.

The team will also discuss NALHFA’s top legislative priorities for 2018 and take your questions about federal issues affecting local HFAs.
