NALHFA’s Washington Briefing Breakfast will feature keynote remarks from two Members of Congress, who will give insight on what it takes to effectively communicate the message of the industry during Capitol Hill visits and back at home. They will also provide an overview of the current atmosphere on Capitol Hill and with the Trump administration.

    Your NALHFA association government relations staff will review the specific talking points to help you to effectively communicate the industry’s position on key issues during the Capitol Hill and federal agency visits. During this session staff will answer any questions that you may have and provide tips on how to get our message across clearly and effectively with policy makers.

    Policy Session: Budget and Appropriations

    This session will feature HUD and Congressional staff speaking about the funding needs HFAs face, the outlook for affordable housing programs, and the budgetary outlook for nondefense discretionary spending. Special emphasis will be given to the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program.

    Policy Session: Tax Credits

    This session will cover a number of policy issues regarding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program including the future of private activity bonds, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act, the new income averaging option, and an update on Opportunity Zones.

    Policy Session: Housing Related Legislative and Regulatory Initiatives 

    This session will cover the issues of the day related to affordable housing, including rent reform, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) reform, and updates on government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) reform.

    Your elected officials rely on hearing from their constituents to keep them apprised of the affordable housing crisis and to provide real-world feedback on how legislative and agency actions impact local communities. During the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to visit their members of Congress on Capitol Hill and/or meet with federal agency representatives to discuss critical industry issues and concerns.
